1) Robert Alford, Week 1, vs. New Orleans: Alford didn’t waste any time getting his first pick of his rookie season. In Week 1 against the Saints, with the Falcons trailing 20-17, Alford intercepted a Drew Brees pass intended for Marques Colston. Alford flashed some of the physical play we got to know over the 2013 season when he wrestled the pass away from Colston in tight coverage and came away with what we hope is the first of many interceptions against Brees and the rival Saints.
2) Desmond Trufant, Week 9, vs. Carolina: After seven straight games with a pass defense, Trufant finally got on the board with his interception of Cam Newton in Week 9. Trailing 7-3 in the second quarter, Trufant made a great play on the pass intended for Ted Ginn, Jr. with a well-timed leap in front of Ginn for a takeaway right in front of the end zone.
3) Robert Alford, Week 9, vs. Carolina: Not to be outdone by his rookie teammate against the Panthers, Alford grabbed his second INT of the season, ending a Panthers scoring threat seconds before halftime. Newton’s pass was a deep one to Steve Smith and while it was overthrown, Alford stuck with it, hauling it in and getting his feet in bounds before stepping out.
4) Desmond Trufant, Week 15, vs. Washington: With the Falcons clinging to a 24-20 fourth-quarter lead, Trufant turned his coverage of Pierre Garcon into his second pick of the year. Trufant read the pass well and got in position to contest the pass as it traveled toward him. He made a play on the ball and made Washington’s Kirk Cousins pay for his gamble.
